Nirmal "Nims" Purja, a renowned mountaineer and former British Special Forces soldier, has tragically died in an avalanche whilst climbing Broad Peak in Pakistan.

The incident, which occurred alongside nine other climbers, has deeply saddened Global Rescue, where Purja was a valued partner and member of the Mountain Advisory Council.

Purja, celebrated for his extraordinary achievements in high-altitude mountaineering, gained international acclaim through Project Possible 14/7, where he summited all 14 of the world's 8,000-metre peaks in just six months and six days. His feats, including the historic first winter ascent of K2 and completing all 14 peaks without supplementary oxygen, were highlighted in the Netflix documentary "14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible," bringing significant recognition to Nepali and Sherpa mountaineers.
