GOL Linhas Aéreas, Brazil's leading domestic airline, has launched a new nonstop service connecting Rio de Janeiro and New York, marking its first long-haul international route.

The service commenced with inaugural flights on 8 July from Rio's Galeão International Airport (GIG) to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and on 9 July for the return journey. The flights operate three times a week on an Airbus A330, offering US travellers seamless access to Brazil's extensive domestic network.

The new route is designed to offer a taste of Brazil from the moment passengers board. "This is an invitation for travellers to experience Brazil from the moment they board our aircraft," said Celso Ferrer, CEO of GOL. The airline's Business INSIGNIA class features lie-flat seats and a premium dining menu crafted by Michelin-starred Brazilian Chef Felipe Bronze, highlighting regional flavours.

Beyond Rio, the service connects to numerous destinations across Brazil, including São Paulo, through GOL's extensive network. Additionally, GOL's partnership with American Airlines allows passengers to earn and redeem AAdvantage miles on connecting flights throughout North and South America.

The operation also enhances GOLLOG's cargo capabilities, expanding cargo capacity between Brazil and the US in collaboration with Avianca Cargo under the Abra Group. Flights from Rio are scheduled for Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with returns from New York on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Tickets are available through GOL's website, American Airlines, and Avianca, with AAdvantage miles applicable on eligible flights. Founded in 2001, GOL serves over 30 million customers annually and is part of the Abra Group, which includes strategic partnerships with Avianca and Air France-KLM
