The bottles drew guests into the room, but family was the thread running through the evening. Brockenchack was founded by Trevor and Marilyn Harch and named for their four grandchildren: Brontë, Mackenzie, Charli and Jack. Darren Naylor attended the Bangkok launch with his son, Mack Naylor, representing the next generation of the family business.
Trevor Harch, who was unable to make the trip to Thailand, was nevertheless very much part of the occasion. Guests sang “Happy Birthday” from Bangkok to mark the founder’s 80th birthday, a small but telling moment in a launch built around personal connection rather than a conventional product presentation.
The non-vintage Great Scott Sparkling Shiraz was the evening’s surprise hit. Medium-bodied and mouth-filling, it showed ripe plum, chocolate and mocha, blackcurrant, vanilla and spice, finishing dry and lingering, a celebratory wine with enough character to earn the headline. Among the still wines, the Zip Line Shiraz was a personal highlight for this writer: an Eden Valley, single-vineyard Shiraz that brings together the depth of older vines and the freshness of younger plantings, with ripe red and black fruit, subtle florals and a long, finely structured finish.
Khun Poonlap Chantavongviriya of Chante Wine and Beverage also shared the evening with his family, reinforcing the theme at the heart of the launch. “It is an honour to help introduce Brockenchack Wines in Thailand,” Poonlap said. “I was impressed by the craftsmanship in every bottle and the warmth of the family behind the winery. Their passion makes the wines feel deeply authentic.”
For Poonlap, the purpose reached beyond a tasting. “We wanted guests to know the people behind the brand and put faces to the names,” he said. “That human-to-human connection, creating experiences and sharing stories, can be lost among faceless corporate brands.”
After four events in a week, Brockenchack’s Thailand introduction had the pace of a road show. Yet the Bangkok evening’s most memorable notes were quieter: a family gathered around its wines, another family helping bring them to market, and a new generation finding its place in the story.
