Hang Lung Properties has announced that its entire Mainland China portfolio will be powered by renewable energy by 1 October 2026. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the company's sustainability journey, with Riverside 66 in Tianjin being the final property to transition to renewable electricity.
The portfolio, spanning 2.65 million square metres across nine cities, will utilise wind and solar energy. This initiative supports China's dual carbon goals and aids tenants, including luxury brands and multinational companies, in meeting their sustainability commitments. Hang Lung anticipates procuring approximately 440,655 MWh of renewable electricity by the end of 2026, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 227,513 tonnes.
The transition began in 2021 with Spring City 66 in Kunming and has since expanded to properties in Yunnan, Shandong, Liaoning, and Hubei. Adriel Chan, Chair of Hang Lung Properties, stated, "Leadership is defined by delivery, not just ambition. By achieving full renewable electricity coverage across our entire Chinese Mainland portfolio, we're creating value for our business and our tenants."
Hélène Valade, LVMH Group Environment Development Director, praised the collaboration, noting, "Thanks to Hang Lung's commitment, our boutiques and offices now run on 100% green electricity." Ma Jun, Director of the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs, highlighted Hang Lung's role as an industry leader, hoping it inspires others to expand renewable energy procurement.
This milestone underscores Hang Lung's commitment to achieving net zero by 2050 and sets a new benchmark for renewable energy adoption in China's commercial real estate sector.
