Hong Kong Airlines is set to launch a new direct flight service between Hong Kong and Lanzhou, Gansu Province, starting 26 May. This weekly service aims to enhance travel convenience and strengthen connectivity between Hong Kong and the northwest region of mainland China.

Lanzhou, the only provincial capital in China with the Yellow River flowing through it, serves as a significant political, economic, and cultural hub in Gansu Province. Historically, it has been a crucial commercial centre and transport artery along the Silk Road. The city offers a range of attractions, including the Yellow River Tower, Zhongshan Bridge, and the famous Lanzhou beef noodles, inviting travellers to explore its rich cultural and natural resources.

The new route aligns with Hong Kong Airlines' strategy to expand travel options, providing a seamless direct flight experience for both business and leisure travellers. It supports the Individual Visit Scheme promoted by the Hong Kong SAR Government, aiming to attract more mainland tourists to Hong Kong and facilitate their transit to destinations in Southeast Asia, Australia, and North America.

Lanzhou is a key area in the 'Silk Road Economic Belt', acting as a transport hub for Central Europe, Central Asia, and South Asia. The new service is expected to foster commercial ties and cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and inland cities along the Belt and Road Initiative.

The flight schedule includes a departure from Hong Kong at 15:45, arriving in Lanzhou at 19:10 every Tuesday, with the return flight departing Lanzhou at 20:10 and arriving in Hong Kong at 23:55. The service is subject to government and regulatory approval
