One of the world’s largest hotel groups has opened its first ever property in Myanmar.

Wyndham, which has a global network of almost 8,000 hotels, has launched the Tryp Yangon, a new-build property in Myanmar’s largest city. This also marks the arrival of the urban, lifestyle-focused Tryp by Wyndham brand in Southeast Asia.

“Myanmar is quickly becoming a must-see destination for international travellers… thanks to an influx of foreign investment and Yangon’s expanded international airport,” said Barry Robinson, Wyndham’s president & managing director for Southeast Asia & Pacific Rim.

“The country’s travel and tourism sector is primed to spike even higher as people seek out new business opportunities, setting the stage for increased hotel demand in Yangon.”

Located in northern Yangon’s Mayangone Township, the 60-room Tryp Yangon features offers free Wi-Fi and breakfast, plus 24-hour room service. Such amenities are part of the brand’s focus on making their guests’ lives easier. Tryp also taps into the Airbnb-style trend of “living like a local”, with rooms adorned with images of Myanmar and guests encouraged to ask front desk staff for local recommendations and reservations.

“Tryp by Wyndham’s unique urban flair will help visitors uncover the side of Yangon not in guidebooks, putting the city in a new light for visitors who want to experience it like a local,” Robinson commented.

Yangon joins a list of key cities that are now home to Tryp hotels, including New York, Paris, Berlin, Sao Paulo and Mexico City. It becomes only the brand’s second location in the Asia Pacific region, following the Tryp Brisbane Fortitude Valley.

The new property will be managed by Kosmopolitan Hospitality, the company founded by Best Western’s former Asian head, Glenn De Souza. “The opening of Tryp Yangon will invigorate Yangon’s hospitality landscape with its edgy concept and high-speed internet connectivity. Along with the exceptional service expected from one of the world’s most renowned international brands, the hotel is poised to be a favourite among regional and international travellers,” de Souza stated.
