IHG confirms card fraud at multiple hotels

Incidents were confirmed at 12 IHG properties in the Americas

IHG has become the latest hotel group to admit to cyber-security breaches at its properties.

The incident came to light on 28 December 2016, when IHG revealed that it was investigating reports of unauthorised charges being made on guests’ payment cards.

Following this investigation, which was conducted by an independent security company, IHG has confirmed that payment cards were compromised at F&B outlets in 12 IHG-managed properties in the Americas between August and December 2016.

The incidents involved malware being used to search for cardholder data from the magnetic strips of the payment cards.

IHG is now investigating whether other hotels have been affected. It has also established a call centre for guests whose card data may have been compromised.
