IHG Hotels & Resorts in Fiji have launched a fundraising initiative throughout September to support The Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen in Suva. For every room night stayed at InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel Suva, and Holiday Inn Suva, $0.43 (FJ$1) will be donated to the community meal programme. This effort is part of IHG's global Journey to Tomorrow plan and its annual Giving for Good initiative, which aims to create a positive impact in local communities.
The Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen, located at the Sacred Heart Cathedral presbytery, provides meals to those experiencing homelessness and hardship. The initiative, led by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Suva, is supported by volunteers and serves some of Suva's most vulnerable residents with dignity and care.
Lachlan Walker, Regional General Manager for Fiji and Pacific at IHG Hotels & Resorts, stated, “At IHG, we believe hospitality extends beyond our hotel walls. Through our Giving for Good initiative, we are proud to support The Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen and the important work it does every day for people experiencing hardship in our community.”
Bou Mawi, Chief Operations Officer of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Suva, expressed gratitude for the support, noting that each contribution is an act of faith and compassion, helping to serve street dwellers and vulnerable community members.
This campaign not only supports those in need but also raises awareness of the ongoing challenges related to food security and cost-of-living pressures in Fiji. By linking guest stays with a local cause, the initiative encourages both travellers and residents to contribute to meaningful change.
