Indian Gen Z travellers are transforming the travel landscape by opting for shorter, more frequent trips that prioritise experiences over traditional long holidays, according to Agoda's 2026 Travel Outlook Report. The survey highlights a generation that values flexibility and accessibility, integrating travel seamlessly into their daily lives.
The report indicates a significant shift in travel patterns, with 84% of Indian Gen Z planning between one and six trips annually, and 72% choosing stays of one to seven days. This trend aligns with a broader movement in markets like Thailand and Vietnam, where travel is becoming a regular part of life rather than a seasonal activity.
For this generation, travel is increasingly about experiences rather than destinations. Cultural exploration (56%) and outdoor activities (36%) are the primary motivations, with relaxation also playing a key role for 72% of respondents. This approach leads Gen Z to select destinations based on the experiences they offer, whether it's cultural immersion or outdoor adventures.
Gaurav Malik, Country Director for India Subcontinent & Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, noted, “For Gen Z in India, travel is increasingly becoming a regular part of their lifestyle rather than an occasional activity. What stands out is how consciously this generation is planning travel by prioritising flexibility and experiences that align with their interests.”
Agoda supports this evolving travel behaviour by offering a wide range of options across flights, accommodations, and activities, allowing Gen Z to plan trips that fit their schedules and preferences. With over 6 million holiday properties and more than 130,000 flight routes, Agoda's platform caters to diverse travel styles and priorities
