Following Travel Daily’s recent International Women’s Day Special discussing the specific needs of women compared to their male counterparts, and the ongoing trend for solo female travel. RCI India, part of Wyndham Worldwide, have selected five destinations ideal for women of the 21st Century.

Ms. Sabina Chopra (below), managing director of RCI India says, “The number of women travelling has increased in the recent past. Although at a nascent stage, there are many tailor made services being extended by tourism boards, airlines, holiday makers to suit the needs of a woman traveler. According to a travel trends survey by RCI in association with Kantar-IMRB, travelers are seeking important factors such as safety & security while planning a vacation. This is even more prevalent in the case of women wanderers. Other aspects include affordability, choice of destinations that give an immersive experience of culture, cuisine and heritage. And overall an unforgettable vacation that will create a lifetime of memories.”

Sikkim – The Queen of the East

Situated 130 km away from Darjeeling, Sikkim offers a mixed cultural experience with its Buddhist heritage and a perfect amalgamation of influences from its north eastern Indian heritage as well. It is a haven for adrenalin seekers, with treks and nature trails in the lap of the Himalayas. Gangtok, the biggest city in Sikkim has a lot to offer in terms of shopping and cuisine. From Chinese porcelain cups to a collection of books and artifacts, Gangtok markets have it all.

Stay at the Club Mahindra Gangtok, a Himalayan paradise that offers the perfect blend of comfort, serenity and modern amenities.  Facing the legendary Chola Range, the resort is surrounded by lush green valleys as well as amazing views of the majestic mountains.

Wayanad – Enchanting green paradise

Found among the mountains of the Western Ghats, Wayanad is a clean, pristine paradise filled with history and culture. With salubrious climate throughout the year, Wayanad district makes for the perfect getaway at any given time. The misty environs offer a wide range of trekking opportunities, plantation visits and wildlife tours. Some of the major attractions include Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Chethalayam Waterfall, Sri Mahaganapathy Temple at Thiruvangoor, Pazhassi Raja Museum, Pookote Lake and Edakkal Caves.

Stay at Sterling Wayanad, offering views of the scenic landscapes of the surrounding. Besides exploring the outdoors, the property will make your stay more interactive with a host of indoor activities such as water polo, rope courses, compass hunt, mini golf and much more.

Jaisalmer – The Golden City

Jaisalmer is a fascinating desert destination with lots to explore and plenty to take in. The border town, is home to imposing forts, a fossil park and many more attractions. The city’s most prominent landmark is the Jaisalmer Fort, also called Sonar Qila (Golden Fort). Unlike most other forts in India, Jaisalmer Fort is not just a tourist attraction. It houses shops, hotels and ancient havelis (homes) where generations continue to live.

Stay at the Club Mahindra Jaisalmer. Designed in the Haveli style of the region, with views of the Thar, the resort offers you every comfort and modern amenities to make your stay a memorable one. The fort stands about 100 meters over the city and houses a citadel within its huge ramparts. Walking down the narrow cobbled stone lanes, one can feel the sheer magic of Jaisalmer.

Maldives – the land with virtually no land

The island nation is a perfect getaway for women looking for unmatched luxury, spectacular white sand beaches and amazing underwater world. With rich history and bespoke beauty, Maldives makes for the best choice for a holiday of a lifetime. The city of Male offers various attractions like the Old Friday Mosque, National Museum and Sultan’s Park. Explore the beach life with unimaginable experiences like breakfast with Hammer Sharks, snorkeling with Dolphins or a swim with Whale sharks. Dig into delicious Maldivian cuisine and sample some of the local fare.

Medhufushi Island Resort, a haven of peace and relaxation. An air of tranquility pervades the island which is adorned with coconut trees and tropical flowers. Enjoy activities at the resort like windsurfing, fishing, and scuba diving or unwind at the swimming pool or the snack bar at the property.

Cambodia – The Allure of Angkor Wat

This small South East Asian country is a cultural Mecca and perfect for women travellers looking for a cultural overload of experience. Angkor Wat, is religious monument in Cambodia and has rightly been called the world’s biggest religious monument. Angkor is just a short drive from Siem Reap, Cambodia’s second most popular city is known for its cafes, diverse nightlife and temples. The cities of Siem Reap, Phnom Penh offers a heady mix of epicurean experiences- cooking classes, sample the best seafood, join foodie tours or browse through lively restaurants.  The local markets and malls are a shopper’s paradise.

Hotel Somadevi Angkor Boutique & Resort offers an unparalleled experience in terms of luxury.
