Leeds Bradford Airport enhances safety with A-SAFE systems

A-SAFE, a leader in workplace safety solutions, has completed a significant installation at Leeds Bradford Airport's new terminal extension and baggage area. This project, which enhances safety across critical operational zones, is part of A-SAFE's ongoing work with major international airports, including London Heathrow and New York JFK. The installation was completed in collaboration with Farrans Construction and Millar Design & Management, ensuring the systems met the airport's specific safety requirements.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority reported a 7% increase in passenger numbers in 2024, reaching over 292 million. This surge has pressured airports to maintain high performance levels whilst ensuring safety. James Smith, co-CEO of A-SAFE, highlighted the importance of safety solutions that not only protect assets but also maintain operational flow. "Leeds Bradford is the latest example of how Atlas systems help airports operate at scale with confidence," he stated.

Gemma Whitehead, Head of Health, Safety, Environment & Compliance at Leeds Bradford Airport, emphasised the airport's commitment to safety, noting the collaboration with A-SAFE and other partners to enhance protection for passengers and staff. The installation included A-SAFE's Atlas for infrastructure and baggage systems, Atlas Plus for passenger segregation, and high-impact bollards for baggage door protection.

Ray Barnett, Sales Director at A-SAFE UK, remarked on the unique safety demands of airports and the company's experience in meeting these challenges. The completion of this project underscores the role of robust safety infrastructure in supporting the growth and complexity of airport operations
