Lufthansa will deploy its newest aircraft, the Airbus A350, on the direct route from Munich to Hong Kong next month.
The German national carrier will take delivery of its fourth and fifth A350-900s on 12 August and 2 September 2017 respectively, and these two aircraft will fly to Hong Kong alternately.
The A350’s maiden flight to Hong Kong will take off on 12 September at 2230 and will touch down at Hong Kong International Airport for the first time 11 hours later at 1535 on 13 September.
“Our passengers can now experience the world’s most advanced long-haul aircraft for the first time on a flight to the Far East. The flight to Hong Kong is one of the longest routes in the Lufthansa flight schedule. Flying on the A350-900 gives passengers an extraordinary experience. An optimised level of cabin pressure ensures that they arrive feeling more rested,” said Wilken Bormann, CEO of Lufthansa’s Munich hub.
Lufthansa’s A350-900 can seat 293 passengers – 48 in business class, 21 in premium economy and 224 in economy – and features the airline’s newest cabin products. As Bormann mentioned, the A350 has lower cabin pressure which is intended to reduce jetlag on long-haul routes.
The airline has placed orders for 25 of these modern long-haul jets, the first 15 of which will be stationed in Munich. The Munich-Hong Kong route is currently served using an aging A340-600 aircraft.
By September 2017, five of these aircraft will be operating from the Bavarian hub, flying to Boston, Delhi, Mumbai and Hong Kong. The aircraft will also be used to relaunch the direct Munich-Singapore route in March 2018.
