The Macao International Fireworks Display Contest, organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), will take place from 12 September to 4 October. This year, the event will feature large-scale drone shows alongside traditional fireworks, marking a new chapter in its history. The contest, themed “Set Sail for Macao, where the Silk Road Sparkles,” aims to boost the city's tourism and nighttime economy.

Ten international fireworks companies, including newcomers from Brazil, Switzerland, Italy, and Portugal, will participate. Returning competitors from the UK, Philippines, and China, last year's top three, will also showcase their displays. Each show will last approximately 18 minutes, with performances scheduled on 12, 19, and 25 September, and 1 and 4 October, coinciding with the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day.

The event will unfold in three chapters: “Encounter with History,” “Encounter with Civilisation,” and “Encounter with the Future.” Over 3,400 drones will illuminate the sky during the opening and closing nights. MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes emphasised the contest's role in showcasing Macao's unique blend of tourism and events.

Spectators can enjoy the displays from various vantage points in Macao, Zhuhai, and Hengqin. The event will be broadcast live on TDM channels and online platforms. Additional activities include a photo contest with a new category for Hengqin residents, an interactive game with prizes, and a Mak Mak-themed Fireworks Carnival.
