The Maharashtra Government has expedited the Munawale Aqua Tourism Project, with Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai instructing departments to ensure its timely completion. This flagship initiative is closely monitored by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and aims to transform the Satara district into a premier aqua tourism destination.
During a review meeting at Vidhan Bhavan, attended by Public Works Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale, the focus was on developing the Munawale (Shivsagar Reservoir) area into a world-class aqua tourism hub. The project is expected to enhance Maharashtra's water tourism sector and create significant employment opportunities in the region. Officials highlighted the area's natural landscape and water resources as ideal for sustainable tourism.
The meeting covered the project's master plan, pending approvals, and infrastructure needs. Desai emphasised the importance of obtaining all necessary administrative approvals and statutory clearances within the set timeframe, urging departments to coordinate effectively at every stage. The plan includes facilities around the Koyna reservoir, such as boating, water sports, and tourist centres. The project's cost has risen to over ₹92 crore, with approvals nearly finalised.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed tourism development at Pratapgad Fort, granting in-principle approval for a memorial featuring a statue of Veer Jivaji Mahale, a bodyguard of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Officials were tasked with identifying suitable land for the proposal.
Senior officials from various departments, including the Forest and Water Resources Departments, attended the meeting. Desai reiterated the need for close collaboration to expedite both the Munawale project and Pratapgad Fort initiatives
