Panasonic projectors transform Paddington: The Musical

Paddington: The Musical, a new addition to London's West End, has captivated audiences with its immersive visual storytelling, thanks to Panasonic's advanced projection technology. The production, staged in a historic theatre, required full scenic video coverage across multiple architectural surfaces, with the challenge of keeping the technology invisible to the audience.

The creative team, led by video supervisor Dan Trenchard and video designer Ash J Woodward, selected Panasonic's RQ35 and RQ25 4K projectors for their high brightness, low noise, and installation flexibility. These projectors, supplied by Stage Sound Services, were strategically placed to blend seamlessly into the theatre's architecture, enhancing the narrative without disrupting sightlines.

Trenchard explained, “We strive for absolute perfection, and that’s what keeps us on our toes. So, there is no concern about investing in Panasonic for a show like this – the reliability speaks for itself.” Woodward added, “Video, for me, is always in service of the story. It needs to have narrative importance, but also the capacity to open up the world of the production when scale and spectacle are required.”

The production's success highlights the growing role of projection in live theatre, with audiences often mistaking projected light for conventional stage lighting. Trenchard noted, “People regularly say they loved the lighting as they are leaving. And actually, the light they’re talking about is projection.”

With Paddington: The Musical receiving rave reviews, the collaboration between Panasonic and the production team demonstrates the power of technology to enhance live storytelling, creating a memorable experience for audiences
