The Risk Map 2027, released by Safeture and Riskline, identifies the safest and riskiest countries and cities for travellers. The map evaluates destinations using a five-level risk scale, considering factors such as security, crime, health, and environmental risks. This year, six countries have improved their risk levels, whilst 15 have become riskier.
Among the safest countries are Bhutan, Canada, and Switzerland, whilst Colombia, Haiti, and Yemen rank among the least safe. Cities like Zurich and Ottawa are deemed safe, whereas Kabul and Port-au-Prince are considered high-risk. Notably, Ottawa remains on the safest list for the second consecutive year.
The Middle East has seen the most dramatic changes, with Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates rising from Moderate to High risk levels. Iran has escalated to the Extreme category. These shifts are crucial for businesses, as the Gulf states are key hubs for travel and commerce.
In Europe, Germany and Finland have moved from Low to Moderate risk, joining Cyprus and Greenland. Despite these changes, Europe still hosts some of the safest destinations, including Denmark and Iceland.
Positive developments include Bangladesh and Nepal improving from High to Medium risk, whilst El Salvador and the Maldives have moved to Moderate. Jonas Brorson, Safeture's Chief Marketing Officer, emphasised the importance of up-to-date intelligence, stating, “This year’s map shows how quickly the risk picture can change.”
The Risk Map 2027 is available for download on Safeture's website, providing organisations with a valuable tool for assessing travel risks and ensuring traveller safety.
