Roomie, a leading hospitality guest engagement platform in Malaysia, has unveiled the country's first integrated payment gateway tailored for the hotel and tourism industry. This innovative solution allows guests to pay for services such as room bookings, room service, and entertainment directly through their preferred booking or chat channels, enhancing convenience and reducing payment friction.

The gateway supports popular regional e-wallets, including Alipay for China and Southeast Asia, UPI for India, TrueMoney and Line Pay for Thailand, and GCash for the Philippines. This integration is particularly timely as Malaysia extends its Visit Malaysia Year to 2027, with China and India remaining key source markets for tourism.

According to Roomie, the new gateway is designed to improve transaction conversion rates by 40%, addressing the industry's high cart abandonment rate of 80%. "The hospitality industry has an opportunity to lead in this space by making technology work seamlessly behind the scenes," said CS Goh, CEO of Roomie. He emphasised the importance of allowing travellers to use familiar payment methods, thereby eliminating currency conversion hassles.

Roomie's platform also offers mobile check-in and check-out, consolidating guest communications across various channels into a single interface. This ensures consistent service and reduces the likelihood of booking cancellations. The company aims to double its client base across Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam within the next year, having already engaged 5.8 million guests and processed 3.6 million orders.

With the launch of this payment gateway, Roomie continues to enhance the guest experience whilst providing hotels with effective tools to boost revenue and reduce operational friction
