Royal Jordanian Airlines and Air China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Beijing to strengthen their partnership and enhance air connectivity between Jordan and China. The agreement, signed during King Abdullah II’s visit to China, aims to expand commercial and operational cooperation, paving the way for new routes and increased competitiveness in global markets.
The MoU outlines plans for the two airlines to explore codeshare opportunities on key routes, leveraging their hubs in Amman and Beijing to offer passengers broader travel options and seamless connections. Additionally, the carriers will collaborate on commercial areas such as interline agreements, product and service training, and brand promotion. Operational support, including ground handling, air cargo, and in-flight catering, will also be enhanced at both hubs.
Samer Majali, Vice Chairman and CEO of Royal Jordanian, highlighted the significance of the MoU in the airline’s strategy to strengthen its presence in China and the Far East. “Beijing represents a key gateway to China and the wider Asian markets, whilst Amman serves as a major hub for the Levant,” Majali stated. He emphasised the potential for expanding Royal Jordanian’s network reach and providing more seamless connections for passengers.
Qu Guangji, President of China National Aviation Holding Corporation and Air China, expressed optimism about the partnership's prospects, noting the strong cooperative relations between the two national carriers. He affirmed Air China’s support for launching direct non-stop services between Amman and Beijing, aiming to promote tourism, business, and cultural exchange between the two countries.
The MoU marks a significant step in aviation cooperation between Jordan and China, providing momentum for developing the air transport market in both nations.
