Global hospitality firm Minor Hotels marked yet another milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony of its first Avani property in Singapore. Taking place at 24 Peck Seah Street in the vibrant Tanjong Pagar district, the event marked the beginning of construction of the 14-storey lifestyle hotel, set to welcome guests in Q2-2027. The project is being developed through a strategic partnership between Minor Hotels, Singapore-based Kajima Development, and Abu Dhabi-based Al Wathba Investment, reinforcing continued international confidence in Singapore’s tourism market. A significant location Located in the heart of Tanjong Pagar, the upcoming 200-key Avani Singapore will offer an elevated urban escape blending the heritage of Singapore’s historic shophouse precinct with Avani’s signature contemporary style. Facilities will include a pool deck, AvaniFit gym, vibrant dining concepts and a pedestrian link between Peck Seah and Tras Street. The property’s location, less than 200 metres from the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station and 350 metres from Maxwell MRT Station, will provide seamless access to the Downtown Core, Marina Bay and other key districts for both local and international visitors. Who’s who Attended by more than 50 distinguished guests, the ceremony was officiated by key executives and project partners including Minor International’s founder and chairman William E Heinecke, Minor Hotels chief executive and Minor International group CEO Dillip Rajakarier, Al Wathba Investment’s managing director Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Kajima Development chief executive Shuichi Oishi, Kim Hua Construction Pte Ltd managing director Winston Zhu Wenting, and Angelene Chan, chairman of DP Architects. The event began with a welcome address by Heinecke, who highlighted the strategic significance of the project and its role in expanding Avani’s presence in key global cities. This was followed by a project overview presented by representatives from the development team, offering insights into the vision behind the new hotel. A significant moment Heinecke declared in his remarks: “Today’s groundbreaking is a proud moment for Minor Hotels as we introduce the Avani brand to Singapore. With our trusted partners Kajima and Al Wathba, we are bringing to life a project that not only reflects our shared commitment to innovation and excellence, but also celebrates the city’s unique blend of culture and modernity.” Guests then gathered for the ceremonial turning of the soil, marking the official start of this exciting new chapter for Avani Hotels & Resorts in one of Asia’s most dynamic cities. Donavanik: Thai hospitality continues to hold sway in a changing world
Dusit International's vice-chairman and executive committee chairman Chanin Donavanik shared his thoughts regarding how his company continues to stay relevant in the rapidly evolving field of global hospitality. The hospitality mogul sat down for a keynote session with Hoftel chairman Simon Allison earlier today, 23rd June, at the South East Asia Hotel Investors' Summit (SEAHIS) at Dusit Thani Bangkok. As the session began, Donavanik said: "One of the most unique things about Thailand for us is that the feedback about us is very positive anywhere we go in the world. In fact, the good thing about Thailand is that, in terms of hospitality, we don't have any issues." Keeping a Thai sensibility Donavanik further pointed out that Dusit International has made it a point to retain a certain modicum of Thai charm and tradition in its properties on a global scale. He cited some recent property developments in Japan to illustrate his point. As he put it: "Our team opened two hotels in Japan around 18 months ago. While they featured Japanese architecture and interior design, we also added a touch of Thai interior design." Donavanik further pointed out that Dusit has long been considered a Thai-focused hospitality company. He said: "Not a lot of hotels can say that, so I'd like to think that, as a hospitality company, we understand who we are. I hope our team will continue to do that." Coping with evolving demographics During the course of the session, Allison pointed out the recent trend of travellers being considerably younger these days. He raised a key point as to whether Dusit International will make adjustments to cater for younger guests or if the matter will be one for sub-brands like Dusit Princess or dusit d2 to get into. Donavanik pointed out that the recently revitalised Dusit Thani Bangkok would serve as a good case study for this. He explained: "I remember when we first launched the hotel: some of the families I knew wanted their children to get married at the Dusit Thani like they'd been. The children, however, would say that they weren't sure if they wanted to go with Dusit Thani because, at the time, our hotel was old-fashioned." But following the hotel's extensive refurbishment, younger customers have expressed greater interest in it. As Donavanik puts it: "I think that, for any good property, it needs to be one that even younger guests can enjoy. They don't have to come to us everyday, but they can come whenever they wish. In fact, I hope that we will continue to draw all kinds of people to our hotels.'

Avani Pattaya Resort transforms facilities under new brand
Nestled in the vibrant city of Pattaya, Avani Pattaya Resort is a renowned resort that offers a lush tropical oasis and family-friendly atmosphere only a few hours from Bangkok. It highlights a perfect blend of sun, sand, and sea, coupled with creative-themed rooms, a kids’ club, and a pool playground. Whilst the resort is formerly a Marriott property with over 40 years of history, it has undergone a significant rebranding in 2016 to resonate with Avani’s own brand personality. This new phase exemplifies its commitment to deliver a balance between coolness and kindness, design and function, and service and privacy. Avani has also undertaken three major refurbishment projects in the past year as part of this change — with upgrades reflected in the Sea View Corner Suite, The Hub, and the Garden View Corner Suite. The Sea View Corner Suite has undergone a transformation from an ordinary-looking suite into a modern, stylish retreat. The interior and exterior spaces have been revamped to create a refreshing Thai beachfront ambience. It now also features contemporary design elements, enhanced comfort, and a spacious terrace with a BBQ grill. This addition allows guests to enjoy private BBQs whilst watching the sunset over Pattaya’s skyline, creating an unforgettable beach vacation experience. Meanwhile, The Hub has been reimagined to be an inclusive space for all guests, having been a former Executive Lounge only accessible to a select few. It offers comfortable workspaces, a vibrant atmosphere, a game zone, and all the connectivity needed for productivity. It caters to guests who need to work during their holiday or seek a change in their working environment. With a variety of zones, The Hub has become a dynamic public area accessible to the community. The last of the three projects it has improved upon is the Garden View Corner Suite, which has only started this year. Under this project, a standard room has been transformed into a stylish suite designed to offer an exceptional holiday experience amidst nature. It highlights an oversized terrace overlooking the area’s lush tropical garden, providing a private area for sunbathing and sunset canape. Avani Pattaya Resort stands out in the industry through these unique and innovative projects. The Sea View Corner Suite’s modern transformation, The Hub’s inclusive and vibrant co-working space, and the Garden View Corner Suite’s nature-inspired design showcase its originality and creativity. This outstanding renovation has been acknowledged by the prestigious TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards 2024 - Thailand, with Avani bagging the Resort Hotel of the Year category win. “Our renovations in these three areas have significantly enhanced guest satisfaction and experience.
