Swayy wins 2018 Travel Technology Disrupt Award

Swayy, a new service that allows hotels and travel companies to quickly and easily connect with digital influencers, has been named the winner of the 2018 Travel Technology Disrupt Award. Swayy will be awarded a full-size stand at the 2019 Travel Technology Europe (TTE) conference in London, worth £8,000 plus marketing support. Swayy successfully applied for the event’s Launchpad, which supported 15 of the most innovative start-ups in the travel technology industry this year. David Gabriele, CEO Swayy commented: “Winning this award is symbolic of the hard work and dedication we have put into providing accountability and transparency to hoteliers and travel companies around the world, both small and large. It’s no secret that the current way in which hotels and influencers work together is inadequate, time-consuming and frustrating. We have streamlined the process and finally given much-needed control back to the hotel industry.” "A much-needed solution to a difficult problem" Judge Renee Tsielepi, consultant, Transcendence said: “The finalists all showed huge potential to disrupt the industry, Swayy particularly impressed by offering a much-needed solution to a difficult problem. Swayy’s platform quickly matches hotels and influencers and removes much of the pain for hoteliers in finding the right influencers to work with.” Judge Martin Cowen, contributing editor, Tnooz added: “Swayy’s algorithm that identifies “fake followers” is a great innovation and one that has massive potential in travel and beyond.” Swayy’s fellow finalists were Protected Trust Services, Wanup, Live2Leave and Guidewiser – all shortlisted from the event’s 15 Launchpad exhibitors. They were chosen during a three-week online vote, which was open to the public and received over 1,000 nominations. The shortlist was then presented to a panel of judges: Walter Toscano, senior advisor, Travel & Telecom Martin Cowen, contributing editor, Tnooz Renee Tsielepi, consultant, Transcendence Sergio Gonzalez, CTO, Regency Resorts Lee Hayhurst, head of news, Travel Weekly Group

GRID 2.0 Travel Intelligence App wins fast company’s most Innovative Award

Representative Image The Global Rescue Intelligence Delivery system (GRID 2.0) that places critical travel intelligence in the hands of leisure and business travelers was named to Fast Company’s prestigious list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies of 2024.   “Our list of the Most Innovative Companies is both a comprehensive look at the innovation economy and a snapshot of the business trends that defined the year,” said Fast Company editor-in-chief Brendan Vaughan. The GRID 2.0 system distributes targeted notifications and alerts to individuals who could be impacted by events including civil unrest, disease-related developments, safety issues, transportation disruptions, communications blackouts, and natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanic activity. “It is the world’s only integrated medical and security mobile app for travel risk, asset tracking, intelligence delivery and crisis response management. Last year more than a million targeted event alerts were distributed to individuals who could be affected by more than 10,000 global events reported,” said Dan Richards, CEO of The Global Rescue Companies, the world’s leading provider of medical, security, evacuation and travel risk management services. As leisure and business travel increase globally, so do the challenges to balance safety in the face of travel disruptions from extreme weather, flooding threats and transportation delays as well as threats of international violent conflicts, terrorism and civil unrest. Most travelers lack immediate access to travel intelligence information or communication capabilities that may be lifesaving in the event of a medical or security emergency. “Global Rescue's GRID 2.0 changes that. In an emergency, the GRID 2.0 app puts its users in immediate contact with the medical teams and military special operations veterans who staff Global Rescue's Global Operations Centers,” said Harding Bush, associate director for Global Rescue security operations. The GRID 2.0 system is comprised of two parts to reduce traveler risk. The Individual Traveler Mobile App and the Desktop Administrator Control Center work together to help individuals, organizations, companies and universities protect, track and communicate with remote travelers, employees and students. Travelers using the GRID 2.0 Individual Traveler Mobile App can research medical and security risks by destination, obtain automatic Destination Reports, receive active security alerts including analysis and advice, connect for GPS "check-ins" with real-time location tracking, and stay in touch with in-app communications both internally and with Global Rescue. Administrators managing the GRID 2.0 Desktop Administrator Control Center receive comprehensive situational awareness of global risks 24/7/365, monitor real-time global threats and analysis with Event Alerts, audit a dynamic global risk map to identify regions of increased risk, manage communications using the in-app messaging that allows direct contact with individual or group GRID 2.0 Mobile App users.

France implements new law to limit disruptions during air traffic control strikes

Travel has been disrupted by strikes and walkouts over the last couple of years. However, following recent air traffic control strikes in France, the country is now looking to improve the situation for passengers. For those caught in the air strikes and still seeking compensation for flights or package holidays, a spokesperson for Claims.co.uk shares the best options: "Whilst booking a package holiday can slash the cost of going away, if your flight is cancelled you can risk having your whole holiday cancelled or rearranged. “If you have booked a package holiday and your flights are cancelled, you have the rights to either claim a full refund, a reroute of the trip destination and potentially compensation from the airline. “However, in these specific circumstances, delays and cancellations caused by air traffic control restrictions are considered an ‘extraordinary circumstance’ and therefore do not qualify for compensation. “In cases of flight delays and flight cancellations due to an ‘extraordinary circumstance,’ the airline must provide you with additional services, depending on the length of your delay and waiting time. “These additional services include free meals and refreshments, which you are entitled to when your flight is delayed by at least 2 hours. Passengers should also receive a free overnight accommodation and a transfer to and from the airport if the flight is shifted to the next day. “If a travel operator needs to cancel a package holiday for any reason, they are required to notify you as soon as possible and without undue delay. This is to ensure that you have enough time to help you make alternative arrangements or seek refunds. "However, in many people's case due to the disruption, if you are at the airport when the flight is cancelled, it is advised that you contact your travel company straight away to talk through your options. “If the delay lasts more than five hours, but is not actually cancelled, you should also be able to choose not to travel and get a full refund on your ticket. “If your flight cannot be rearranged, meaning your whole holiday must be cancelled, then the travel company must offer an alternative holiday if possible, or a refund of the full package price, not just the flight part.” What is the best option? If you are wondering whether to claim a full refund or reschedule your holiday, this depends on personal circumstances. There are several factors you can consider making this decision: Refund Amount- if the travel operator is offering a full refund, this could be financially more appealing, especially if you are uncertain about your future travel plans. Availability- consider if the dates the travel operator offers you are a suitable alternative date for your original trip. If the new dates do not align with your schedule, rescheduling might not be a viable option. Change Fees: check if the travel operator is waiving any change fees for rescheduling. Some operators might impose fees for changing travel dates, which could impact your decision. Travel Insurance: if you have travel insurance, review your policy to see if it covers cancellations or changes due to unforeseen circumstances. This might influence your decision to reschedule or opt for a refund. A spokesperson for Claims.co.uk adds: “If you received less than 14 days’ notice of the cancellation, you can claim compensation. This can be awarded in pounds or euros depending on where your flight was due to depart from.” The awards are according to the following scale: £220 / €250 for all flights of 1,500km or less (e.g. Glasgow to Amsterdam); £350 / €400 for all flights between 1,500km and 3,500km (e.g. East Midlands to Marrakech); £520 / €600 for all other flights (e.g. London to New York).
