Kazakhstan’s SCAT Airlines launches Shymkent-Bangkok service

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) marked the press launch of SCAT Airlines’ new Shymkent–Bangkok service on Tuesday, 16th December. This new service reinforces direct air connectivity between Thailand and Kazakhstan whilst supporting continued growth from the Central Asia market. The press launch was attended by Kazakhstan ambassador to Thailand Margulan Baimuhan, TAT deputy-governor for international marketing in Europe, America, Africa, and the Middle East Chiravadee Khunsub, and SCAT Airline’s commercial director Nikolay Buryakov. Their presence reinforced the role of public–private cooperation in expanding international air services. Opening a new chapter In her remarks, Khunsub pointed out: “The launch of SCAT Airlines’ new Shymkent–Bangkok service marks the beginning of a new chapter, not only for our airline partners but also for travellers and businesses who will benefit from this connection between two extraordinary cities.”  She added that Central Asia is recognised as a high-potential market for Thailand, supported by favourable travel conditions including Thailand’s tourist visa exemption, which allows stays of up to 30 days with the option to extend to 60 days. Highlighting Thailand’s broad appeal, Khunsub likewise noted that destinations rich in history, culture and natural beauty continue to resonate strongly with Kazakhstani travellers.  She said: “Whether visitors are drawn to sacred temples, world-famous cuisine or our diverse coastal landscapes, Thailand delivers memorable experiences throughout the day and night.”  Khunsub also expressed appreciation to SCAT Airlines for its close cooperation with the TAT Moscow Office in facilitating the launch of the new Shymkent–Bangkok service. A twice-weekly service SCAT Airlines operates the Shymkent–Bangkok service twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays using Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a capacity of 180 seats in an all-economy configuration.  Flight DV469 arrives in Bangkok at 04.30 Hrs., with the return service DV470 departing Bangkok at 05.40 Hrs.  The first arrival on 16th December brought 140 passengers to the Thai capital, indicating early demand for direct travel between the two destinations. The new Shymkent–Bangkok route complements existing Thailand–Kazakhstan air links, including scheduled services by Air Astana and SCAT Airlines from Almaty and Astana to Bangkok and Phuket, as well as AirAsia services from Almaty to Bangkok.  This expanded network enhances travel choice while supporting access to Thailand’s key gateways.

Thailand’s Hottest Rooftop Bars: Sky-High Sundowners in Chiang Mai, Bangkok and Pattaya

Thailand has perfected the art of the rooftop bar, blending epic skyline views with inventive cocktails, poolside glamour and destination‑worthy dining. From Chiang Mai’s misty mountains to Bangkok’s glittering skyscrapers and Pattaya’s Gulf of Thailand panoramas, a new generation of sky bars is redefining where to watch the sunset – and where to stay. Chiang Mai: Walk a Glass Bridge Above the City Perched on the 22nd floor, MAI The Sky Bar at Meliá Chiang Mai is the highest rooftop bar in the city and one of its most dramatic. The 360‑degree venue looks out over the Ping River to the east and towards Doi Suthep Temple to the west, with tiered terraces at different heights and a glass bridge linking the highest seating areas for serious “wow” factor at sunset. Glass balustrades keep the focus firmly on the view, while live bands and DJs turn the space into one of Chiang Mai’s liveliest late‑night spots. Leaning into Meliá’s Spanish heritage, the menu is divided into tapas‑style “Para Picar”, sharing boards under “Tableros”, and “Postres” for dessert, backed by creative cocktails inspired by the forests and mountains around Chiang Mai. The bar is also building a reputation for event programming, including a Beats and Baubles Christmas Eve celebration, a New Year’s Eve countdown and a Spanish Gastronomy Series with visiting chefs hosting four‑day culinary showcases that culminate in Sky & Vine finale nights with wine pairings and live entertainment on the Upper Deck. Bangkok: Sip Cocktails Beside a Transparent Infinity Pool INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit’s The Giant Swing Pool Bar In the capital, INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit takes the rooftop game up a notch with The Giant Swing Pool Bar on the 34th floor, wrapped around a transparent infinity pool that doubles as a show‑stopping photo backdrop. A contemporary interpretation of Bangkok’s famous Brahman Giant Swing structure anchors the space, while an expansive terrace scattered with loungers and daybeds channels an Ibiza‑meets‑Bangkok vibe with panoramic skyline views. Open from 10am until midnight, the pool bar serves Mediterranean, Thai and international snacks – including the hotel’s signature INNSiDE Burger – alongside a line‑up of playful cocktails. After dark it becomes an upper‑level extension of LUZ Bangkok Tapas Bar one floor below, where guests can even look up into the base of the infinity pool. Wednesdays are all about “Viva la Fiesta”, a weekly rooftop party with guest DJs, live percussion, paella and sweeping night‑time views, while the Giant Swing Pool Bar also hosts a New Year’s Eve celebration that runs from early evening through to the small hours. Pattaya: Toast the Gulf of Thailand at a Wellness‑Inspired Sky Bar Yitong Sky Bar, Meliá Pattaya Hotel Pattaya’s rooftop scene has a stylish new addition in Yitong Sky Bar, crowning the 12th floor of the newly opened Meliá Pattaya Hotel with sweeping views over the Gulf of Thailand. Part of Yitong Chinese Restaurant & Sky Bar, the venue focuses on Cantonese and Sichuan cuisine with an emphasis on health and sustainability, positioning itself as “goodness for body, mind and soul”. The bar’s cocktail list is as thoughtful as the food: signatures include Kuaile De, featuring goji‑berry‑infused gin with honey, lemon and cava; Chun Hou, blending brandy, orange curaçao, rosella tea and rose syrup; and Tian De, a more robust mix built around Campari, ginseng and Chinese liquor. The name Yitong, meaning “together”, nods to Chonburi’s historic Chinese communities and is reflected in family‑style dishes and a social, share‑plate atmosphere. High above the shoreline, Yitong Sky Bar will see out the year with a New Year’s Eve Countdown party complete with gourmet canapés, free‑flow house wine and local beer, plus a midnight glass of sparkling wine, while the hotel’s “Chill & Cheers Escape” package includes a welcome cocktail at the bar for an easy rooftop‑centric getaway. Whether you’re drawn to Chiang Mai’s glass bridge in the sky, Bangkok’s transparent infinity pool or Pattaya’s wellness‑minded Gulf views, these extraordinary rooftop bars prove that in Thailand, the best nights out often begin far above street level.

Citilink’s new Jakarta-Bangkok service gets a warm welcome at Don Mueang

Indonesian low-cost carrier Citilink recently launched its direct Jakarta–Bangkok service. This new offering serves as the airline’s inaugural international connection between Jakarta and Bangkok–Don Mueang International Airport, reinforcing Thailand’s air connectivity with Indonesia, one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing outbound markets. The inaugural flight took off on Friday, 12th December, and received an overwhelmingly positive response, with all flights operating at a full load factor.  The Jakarta–Bangkok route marks Citilink’s fourth international destination, following services to Singapore, Malaysia, and Timor-Leste, further strengthening regional connectivity and travel options. Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai, deputy governor for international marketing in Asia and the South Pacific, for the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) led delegates in welcoming the inaugural arrival at Don Mueang. She said of Citilink’s new route: “Indonesia is a highly strategic market for Thailand, with strong growth potential among young, independent and experience-driven travellers. The launch of the Citilink Jakarta–Bangkok service strengthens accessibility, supports travel flexibility, and aligns with our direction to build sustainable, high-quality visitor growth across ASEAN.” A timely introduction The new Jakarta–Bangkok service enters operation at an ideal time as Thailand moves into the year-end festive season, a peak travel period defined by major celebrations, shopping events, and family travel, giving Indonesian visitors convenient access to Thailand’s vibrant holiday atmosphere. Citilink, a subsidiary of the Garuda Indonesia Group, operates the route daily using an Airbus A320 with a capacity of 180 seats.  Flights depart Jakarta at 12.30 and arrive in Bangkok at 16.10, while the return service departs Bangkok at 17.10 and arrives in Jakarta at 20.30 local time.  In daily operations, the service delivers approximately 5,400 seats per month, enhancing convenience for both leisure and business travellers. The new connection supports TAT’s continued focus on strengthening inbound travel from Indonesia.  Looking ahead, Citilink and TAT are preparing joint marketing initiatives for 2026, including co-branded digital campaigns, collaborative promotions with travel agents and OTA partners, and coordinated media and influencer visits to highlight Thailand’s diverse tourism offerings.
