5 ways the Delta app can save you time at the airport

Taking to the skies this holiday season? Whether you’re a seasoned road warrior or an every-now-and-then adventurer, Delta’s app helps you stay informed and in control throughout your journey. With digital time-savers like interactive airport maps and self-service standby options, the app is your ultimate travel companion –this holiday, and every day. That’s why more than 97% of SkyMiles Medallion Members use the app to manage their day-of travel experience. Whatever your travel profile, discover how the app can help you breeze through the airport and focus on what matters most: enjoying your journey. 1. Checking a bag? Use App Bag Drop to save time in the lobby.   Delta’s App Bag Drop – now in ATL, BOS, JFK, DTW, LAX, MSP and SEA– is a game-changer for customers who want to save time and skip lines at the airport. If you’ve checked in and added your bags via the app, you can use a dedicated App Bag Drop lane to quickly print your bag tag and drop off your luggage, bypassing the main queue. That means shorter lines, faster check-in and more time to relax before your flight. Plus: Did you know you can redeem miles toward checked bags? Use miles to cover fees for standard checked bags on flights originating from select U.S. airports by selecting “Pay with Miles” during check-in through the app. These self-service bag drop lanes are rolling out to remaining Delta hubs by end of year, bringing the gift of efficiency to even more app users systemwide. 2. Upload your travel documents to the app before you get to the airport.  Make flying overseas a breeze by uploading your passport and other essential documents to the app before you reach the airport. With everything securely stored in the app, check-in is faster and more convenient; no more searching for paperwork at the counter. Starting in December, SkyMiles® Members can scan and store their passport to their SkyMiles Member Profile in the app. Scan just once and have your passport available in your profile for all future international trips. (Just remember to always bring your physical passport with you!) 3. Navigate the airport like a pro.   Find your pre-flight comfort drink quickly with the app. Use interactive maps at major airports to find gates, lounges and amenities quickly. Find airport maps on your app boarding pass. 4. Plan your Delta Sky Club® visit  In airports with more than one Delta Sky Club, customers with Club access can strategically plan their visit with the app’s occupancy tracker. With a quick glance, you can see how busy each lounge is – helping you plan your visit and choose the best location for a relaxing break. Tap “Delta Sky Club” section in the app to see real-time occupancy levels (updated every 10 minutes) for your Club of choice. 5. If plans change, stay flexible with self-service standby through the app.   Travel plans don’t always go as expected—but luckily, the app’s self-service standby feature puts flexibility at your fingertips. If you’re impacted by a delay or cancellation, you can list yourself for standby on an earlier domestic flight directly in the app (even if Delta has already rebooked you). No need to wait in line or call customer service—this  digital option lets you view available flights, join the standby list and track your status in real time, helping you reach your destination sooner when seats open up.*

First announced at CES 2025, the collaboration between the two premium brands is reshaping what loyalty looks like – integrating travel, lifestyle and technology to create a more connected experience. From road to runway, getting to your destination just got more rewarding. Starting this week, SkyMiles Members can visit delta.com/uber to link their SkyMiles and Uber accounts and automatically earn miles on eligible rides and orders. Read on to see how Delta and Uber are giving Members new ways to earn and travel with ease – including a new pilot program at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) designed to enhance the airport drop-off experience just in time for the holidays. Reimagining the airport drop-off experience at LGA   Delta and Uber have launched a new airport drop-off pilot at LGA, designed to elevate the customer experience while reducing congestion. Customers can now self-select “Express Drop Off, Checked-In” and be dropped off at the Express Drop Off area on the outer curb, where they’ll be greeted with curbside hospitality, wayfinding support, a direct path to security, and, for a limited time, giveaways. This will help redirect traffic to under-utilized spaces, easing flow and enhancing convenience for customers. “This pilot is a great example of how we’re using partnerships to solve real customer pain points and elevate their experience,” said Joshua Kaehler, managing director of loyalty partnerships at Delta. “We’re rethinking what the end-to-end travel experience should feel like, starting with more choice, convenience and the hospitality that reflects both the Delta and Uber brands.”

Delta’s DREAM flight celebrates 25 years of launching next gen aviators

This month, Delta celebrated 25 years of its DREAM flight — giving 145 aspiring aviators the opportunity to travel with and learn from a variety of current industry leaders.  Since its founding in 2000, this special charter flight — hosted in partnership with the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) — has carried students ages 13 to 18 to aviation-themed destinations to explore the endless opportunities available in aerospace. By allowing young people to see themselves in a vast array of roles, such as flight crews, pilots, gate agents and flight dispatchers, the DREAM flight creates a runway to possibilities in aviation. For the first time, the DREAM flight landed in Merritt Island, FL, where the students had a day filled with activities at the Kennedy Space Center. The programming included facility tours, interactive experiences and a Delta panel discussion with a pilot, flight attendant and corporate leaders from Brand Experience, Communications and Legal who shared insights on the range of careers available, both in the air and on the ground. “Helping others soar is part of Delta’s DNA, and that’s what makes this flight so special,” said Kurt Ford, Managing Director of Flight Training at Delta. “By connecting students to aviation leaders, the DREAM Flight allows students to envision futures they might never have imagined and helps shape the future of our industry.” This month, Delta celebrated 25 years of its DREAM flight — giving 145 aspiring aviators the opportunity to travel with and learn from a variety of current industry leaders. The vision that made the DREAM flight a reality  In 1973, newly hired Delta pilot and U.S. Air Force veteran, John Bailey, would often fly round robin charters around Boston for terminally ill children. Inspired by the spirit and purpose of these flights, he envisioned creating a similar opportunity for children who could aspire to become future pilots. Twenty-five years later, Bailey proposed bringing a week-long aviation exposure program for teenagers to the Delta campus and pitched his long-held dream of a circle trip flight for participating students and other community flight organizations to end the session. The following year, 1999, the first OBAP Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy camps were held at Delta headquarters, welcoming 45 students. As Bailey and his colleagues planned for the program’s second year, he received “the call” from Charlie Tutt, a senior leader in Flight Operations. His flight for children had finally been approved — on two conditions. First, it would not be a round robin flight; it needed to travel to an educational destination that would extend the students’ learning. And second… “You have to have that plane home by 6:30 p.m.” In July 2000, the inaugural DREAM Flight took off for the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., with Bailey as its pilot. He and his Delta and OBAP colleagues hosted 150 kids from Atlanta City Schools and aviation-themed camps in an unforgettable flight that arrived back in Atlanta — on time. Delta’s commitment to helping aviation careers take flight  Delta’s DREAM flight represents Delta’s commitment to exposing students from underrepresented groups to the world of aviation, as part of a broader effort to clear the runway for the best, most qualified future talent. The ongoing partnership between Delta and OBAP has given more than 4,000 youth immersive learning opportunities to better understand pathways to aviation careers. The primary goal remains to grow students’ interest in aviation through fun and educational opportunities while pairing them with mentors. In addition to participants of the OBAP ACE Academy, this year Delta invited students from Atlanta-area schools and STEM organizations, including Morrow High School, Kindezi School, Rex Mill Middle, Elite Scholars Academy, Tuskegee Airmen and Aviation Career Enrichment. A group of volunteers with a variety of diverse backgrounds attended to engage with the students throughout the day, sharing their personal journeys within Delta. DREAM Flight is just one of the many initiatives Delta has to expand and develop its talent pipeline and hire the best and brightest employees. Earlier this fall, DELTA hosted its tenth annual WING (Women Inspiring the Next Generation) Flight, which flew 130 young women from Atlanta to Florida’s Space Coast in celebration of Girls in Aviation Day.

Delta reduces flights in compliance with FAA directive

Delta continues to comply with the FAA Directive to reduce flying at 40 U.S. airports. All planned FAA-directed flight cancelations through Tuesday, Nov. 11 have been completed. Given compounding constraints from additional Air Traffic Control staffing shortages and resulting delay programs, additional delays and cancelations are expected Sunday. Including the impact of additional pressure late Saturday affecting Delta's Sunday operational start-up, there are more than 320 Delta mainline and 150 Delta Connection cancelations on Nov. 9 as of 12:00 p.m. ET, with more expected. Canceling a flight is always a last resort after all options have been exhausted. What Delta customers should know: They are providing additional flexibility to our customers traveling to, from or through the impacted markets to change, cancel or refund their flights, including Delta Main Basic fares, without penalty during this travel period. See travel waiver details here. Visit delta.com or the Fly Delta app to check flight status or explore options. These flight reductions are in response to air traffic control staffing shortages stemming from the ongoing government shutdown and are intended to maintain safety across the national airspace system.
