Air India Express announces start of flights from Navi Mumbai
Continuing its growth momentum, Air India Express, India’s first international value carrier, announces the addition of the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) to its expanding network. Starting 25 December 2025, the first day of commercial operations at the airport, Air India Express will operate daily flights to Bengaluru and five weekly flights to Delhi, the two largest domestic hubs of the airline. Navi Mumbai International Airport to Begin Operations on Christmas, 25 December 2025
Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will begin commercial operations on 25 December 2025. The launch will add capacity to the growing aviation needs of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). In the first month, NMIA will operate for 12 hours between 08:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs, handling 23 scheduled daily departures. During this period, the airport will manage up to 10 flight movements per hour. The inaugural flight to arrive at NMIA will be IndiGo 6E460 from Bengaluru, scheduled to touchdown at 8:00 AM. Shortly after, IndiGo 6E882 will depart for Hyderabad at 8:40 AM, marking the first outbound service from the new airport. During the initial launch period, passengers will benefit from services operated by IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa Air, connecting Mumbai to 16 major domestic destinations. IndiGo commenced its direct long-haul service connecting Mumbai and Copenhagen, Denmark, marking the airline’s entry into the Scandinavian region of Europe. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), in line with the spirit of World Tourism Day, continues to reaffirm its position as India’s premier gateway, welcoming over 5 million international passengers between January 2025 and August 2025. For millions of travellers, CSMIA serves as the first glimpse of Mumbai’s vibrant culture the moment passengers arrive. Over the past three years, international arrivals at the airport have grown at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 21 percent, highlighting Mumbai’s ever-burgeoning prominence on the global travel map and echoing the spirit of World Tourism Day that celebrates the power of travel in connecting cultures and economies. With direct connectivity to 55 international destinations, CSMIA has cemented its position as one of the most globally connected airports in the region. The UAE remains CSMIA’s largest source market, contributing 1.5 million arrival passengers between January 2025 and August 2025. England and Thailand follow with 0.38 million and 0.32 million international arriving passengers, respectively. CSMIA’s growing connectivity is also reflected in the seven new international routes added between April 2024 and 2025, linking Mumbai with Al-Fujairah, Tashkent, Krabi, Almaty, Amman, Manchester, and Tbilisi. This addition marks the second route to Bali, complementing IndiGo’s existing daily flights between Bengaluru and Bali. IndiGo will operate its Airbus A320 aircraft on this route as it reiterates its commitment to enhancing global connectivity from India, meeting the rising demand for international leisure travel.
