TPE will install SITA’s game changing check-in kiosk solutions, allowing passengers to fly through the airport and on to their destination faster than ever before. The kiosks bring innovation to the check-in desk, helping passenger processing become a state-of the-art feature of the airport experience. TPE has chosen SITA to provide its Local Departure Control System (LDCS), Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) and Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) systems, including a full hardware refresh of 80 check-in kiosks to support all international flights in Terminals 1 and 2. The purchase of SITA's technology comes at a crucial time for the aviation industry in Taiwan. He said: "As part of our improvement program, the smart use of technology will maximize our existing infrastructure, and provide our passengers with a world-class experience, while supporting our airline customers in managing their operations more efficiently. SITA's CUSS and CUTE systems are key to meeting our ambitions – from managing the flow of passengers through our terminals to making all of our passengers' journeys smoother and more efficient." Asian MICE Forum embraces the future as it marks its 20th year
Marking its 20th edition this year, the Asian MICE Forum kicked off today, 19th September, on the 14th floor of the Taipei New Horizon Event Space in the Taiwanese capital. Revolving around the theme Beyond 20+: Embracing Tomorrow, speakers and participants are looking to a future that weaves together technological innovation and sustainable practices to stage highly engaging meetings, conferences, and exhibitions in Asia and elsewhere in the world. Likewise, as Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) president and chief executive Simon Wang put it, the event also celebrates the human component of the MICE industry and the importance of connection and shared experiences. Wang said: "The true value of MICE lies in the stories shared when people meet." Celebrating growth and maturity Speaking to open the event, deputy secretary-general Susan Hu of the Taiwanese Ministry of Economic Affairs pointed out that the Forum's 20th run heralds a period of growth and maturity for the event and the MICE sector in general. Hu recalled: "20 years ago, the Ministry started investing in Taiwan's MICE industry. At first, everything happened at the Taipei World Trade Centre and, later, the International Convention Centre. As demand grew, we built a new exhibition centre; a little later, Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Taoyuan joined the party. You could say that Taiwan created a full MICE corridor from north to south." But Hu also pointed out that the growth went beyond infrastructure, delving deeper into Taiwan's soft power. More than an IT hub Taiwan is known throughout the world as a key player in the global IT sector thanks to its position as a leader in the semiconductor and consumer electronics industries. Hu declared that MICE and related industries have played a major role in the country's industrial success. She said: "Events like Computex and Semicon Taiwan bring tens of thousands of international buyers, investors, and innovators to Taiwan. At these events, they don't just see our products, but they can also connect with our industry professionals and create opportunities for them. In short: no MICE, no market." Hu also explained how MICE doesn't just benefit the sectors hosting events and the companies who stage these for them. MICE also benefits the greater population: hospitality providers, restaurateurs, retailers, as well as service providers. Celebrating the past, embracing the future For TAITRA's Wang, the 20th Asian MICE Forum not only honours a storied past, but it also opens discussions regarding the future of MICE in Asia and beyond. He said: "20 years ago, the total output of MICE in Taiwan was about US$68 million; today, this has jumped to US$63 billion. Also, the role of TAITRA moving forward is to build platforms, connect industries, and introduce digital and sustainability solutions." Wang opined that every encounter should be seen as an opportunity. In which case, every conference and exhibition opens a chapter, a door into collaboration later on. Wang concluded his remarks by saying: "Let's keep planting these seeds of opportunity; let's keep nurturing them to see if we can work towards another 20 years of Taiwan MICE stories."

To strengthen Taipei's visibility and competitiveness in the Singapore and Malaysia travel markets, the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism in collaboration with the governments of New Taipei, Keelung, and Taoyuan, partnered with tourism industry representatives from northern Taiwan to present a major tourism promotion event in Singapore. Key annual events were showcased, including the Dadaocheng Summer Festival, Taipei New Year's Eve Countdown Party, and the Taipei Lantern Festival, all of which sparked great interest among attendees. A slew of agreements Taipei also signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS) and the Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association (MCTA) to promote bilateral cooperation in marketing resource sharing, tourism information exchange, and future joint promotions. IATA releases its Contactless Travel Directory
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced the release of its Contactless Travel Directory on Monday, 7th April. The Contactless Travel Directory was developed to quickly scale and increase adoption of contactless travel solutions for both airports and airlines. That said, the Directory will power a matchmaking service to help airlines identify and offer contactless travel at specific airports, including with their partner airlines. Contactless travel uses interoperable biometric solutions to enable travelers to move through the travel process without relying on paper documentation such as passports or boarding passes. Parts of the travel process that could be made more efficient with contactless travel include bag drop, lounge access, security access, security screening, and boarding. Making things easier According to IATA senior vice-president for operations, safety, and security Nick Careen: “The release of the Contactless Travel Directory will make it easier for airlines to expand biometric service opportunities for their customers. As travelers expect ever greater efficiency, biometric recognition technology is taking on a growing role in facilitating travel.” Careen added that, together with the IATA One ID initiative, the Directory will help accelerate this most necessary transition thanks to critical data and compliance with global standards. Digital services provider Airware, together with identity management providers IDEMIA and iPassport, will be the first to demonstrate the use of the Directory. At this year’s Passenger Terminal Expo, scheduled for this week in Madrid, delegates will be able to enroll during check-in for fictitious flights between the UK and Spain using the WorldJet Airline App, then pass through the biometric touchpoints at both Airware’s and IDEMIA’s booths, as one would in a real airport. Key features of the Contactless Travel Directory A single reference point for airlines to determine the availability of biometric travel touchpoints across their network. Traveler eligibility information by location, so airlines know which travelers (nationality, passport compatibility, and age) will be eligible for contactless services using biometric identification. Technical protocols airlines need to connect with other airline or airport biometric touchpoints.
