Sun Siyam Vilu Reef in the Maldives has introduced an innovative 'Adopt-a-Coral' initiative, allowing guests to engage directly in coral reef restoration. Launched on World Nature Conservation Day, 28 July 2026, this initiative is part of the resort's sustainability programme, Sun Siyam Cares. It offers guests the chance to attach live coral fragments to nursery frames, guided by marine experts, to help rebuild the vibrant aquatic habitats of the South Nilandhe Atoll.
The launch event featured interactive activities, including a frame planting ceremony and bespoke refreshments. Guests will continue to receive updates on the growth of their adopted corals, fostering a lasting connection with the island's ecosystem. "Our reef is the heart of our island, and protecting it is a responsibility we proudly share with every guest who visits us," said Masdhooq Saeed, Cluster General Manager. "By giving our guests the opportunity to plant coral, we offer them a meaningful way to leave our sanctuary even better than when they arrived."
The initiative is a significant part of Sun Siyam Vilu Reef's long-term sustainability vision, blending luxury hospitality with conservation efforts. The resort's house reef is home to diverse marine life, including coral formations, tropical fish, and turtles, making its preservation crucial for future generations
