The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently participated in the 26th Thai Festival Tokyo 2026, held from 9 to 10 May at Yoyogi Park, Tokyo. The event aimed to strengthen Thailand's appeal among Japanese travellers by showcasing Thai pop culture and creative travel experiences.
The festival's opening ceremony was attended by key figures, including Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Shimada Tomoaki, Japan's Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs. The event, themed “Creative Life and Creative Heartbeat,” served as a platform to promote Thai culture, products, and tourism ahead of the 140th anniversary of Thailand–Japan diplomatic relations in 2027.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool emphasised the importance of Japan as a key visitor market for Thailand, noting the strong cultural ties between the two countries. “Through Thai Festival Tokyo 2026, TAT is presenting Thailand in a contemporary and accessible way, using Thai pop culture, creativity, and lifestyle experiences to inspire Japanese travellers,” she said.
The festival featured the “Amazing Thailand: Thai Pop Culture Move” showcase, which included five themed zones, or “Soi” zones, designed to engage younger Japanese audiences. These zones offered a variety of experiences, from Muay Thai and crafts to food and wellness, all presented in a vibrant, street-style layout.
In addition to the TAT showcase, the wider festival programme included over 170 booths highlighting Thailand's creative industries, public and private sector initiatives, and cultural experiences. Thai Festival events are scheduled to take place in 45 cities across 36 countries in 2026, further promoting Thailand as a global cultural destination
