Thailand has launched its first web and mobile application for national immigration management, the Thailand Immigration Management System (THIM), developed by Digital Identity Co. in partnership with the Thailand Immigration Bureau and powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS). The app, now available in a pilot phase, allows international tourists to complete their arrival card in just three minutes, significantly reducing wait times at checkpoints.
THIM, which supports English, Russian, Japanese, and Chinese languages, aims to serve approximately 30 million tourists annually. The app is part of Thailand's efforts to modernise its immigration process, positioning the country at the forefront of Southeast Asia’s digital immigration transformation. "By embracing cloud technology, we have reduced processing times significantly whilst strengthening our national security capabilities," said Pratya Prasarnsuk, Deputy Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau.
The app's architecture utilises AWS services, including AI-powered optical character recognition for document verification and Amazon EC2 for scalable compute capacity. It also employs Amazon GuardDuty for continuous threat detection and AWS Key Management Service for secure communications, ensuring data security for sensitive traveller information.
Natakorn Tanachaihirun, CEO of Digital Identity Co., stated, "We built THIM to make sure it's wide open and secure at the same time." The app is designed to evolve into a comprehensive digital services centre for the Immigration Bureau, with future capabilities such as appointment booking and e-Extension. Visitors can download THIM from the Apple and Android stores
