Representative imageInternational travellers are increasingly seeking meaningful experiences and quieter destinations, according to the latest Global Rescue Traveller Sentiment and Safety Survey. The survey highlights a growing preference for YOLO (You Only Live Once) travel, with 68% of respondents expressing heightened interest in once-in-a-lifetime adventures compared to last year.
The survey, conducted by Global Rescue, a leading travel risk management provider, indicates a significant shift away from crowded tourist spots and social media-driven itineraries. Nearly 66% of travellers now favour less crowded destinations, embracing the Joy of Missing Out (JOMO) over the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). In contrast, only 15% are more interested in packing their holidays with numerous activities to avoid missing out.
Dan Richards, CEO of The Global Rescue Companies, noted, "Experienced travellers are becoming more intentional about how they spend their time abroad. They're choosing experiences that are personally meaningful rather than simply popular."
The findings suggest a maturing mindset among travellers, who are now prioritising value and authenticity over social pressure. Whilst 31% of respondents are more interested in selecting destinations based on value, 58% report no change in their approach.
Richards added, "Today's experienced traveller isn't abandoning adventure. They're redefining it. The emphasis has shifted from seeing the most places to having the most meaningful experiences."
The survey, conducted between 30 June and 6 July 2026, reflects a broader trend of travellers balancing aspiration with practicality, seeking personalised travel experiences that resonate on a personal level
