India's love for road trips is on the rise, as revealed by the Uber Intercity Travel Index for April to June 2026. Improved highway infrastructure is making intercity travel faster and more convenient, leading to a surge in road trips for both weekend getaways and longer holidays. Whilst major routes like Mumbai-Pune and Delhi-Agra remain popular, the fastest growth is seen in regional routes connecting Tier-II cities and leisure destinations.
The data highlights strong demand for routes such as Ahmedabad-Vadodara, Delhi-Dehradun, and Chennai-Puducherry. Destinations like Dehradun, Puducherry, and Nashik have become popular for weekend escapes, whilst heritage and pilgrimage sites such as Agra and Mysuru also attract significant interest.
Shiva Shailendran, Director of Revenue and Category Management at Uber India and South Asia, noted, "A combination of safer intercity travel options like Uber Intercity along with an expanding and improved road infrastructure is driving road trips across India."
The Index also indicates a trend towards experience-led travel, with spikes in Uber Intercity demand around long weekends like May Day and Bakrid. Some travellers completed nearly 30 intercity trips, covering up to 1,500 kilometres over the three-month period.
Uber is enhancing convenience and safety with features like Call2Ride, which allows bookings via phone without app access, and round-trip options. Safety features such as a 24x7 Safety Line and RideCheck further bolster Uber Intercity's appeal. As India invests in road connectivity, Uber continues to facilitate seamless city-to-city travel, offering both riders and drivers new opportunities
