United Airlines and DIRECTV have joined forces to provide passengers with live streaming TV on Starlink-enabled seatback screens until 20 July. This collaboration allows passengers to enjoy live sports and other programming on up to 150 aircraft, utilising the world's fastest inflight Wi-Fi service.
Passengers on these flights will have free access to over a dozen live TV channels, including FOX, ESPN, and BBC, offering a variety of content such as live football, news, and entertainment. This initiative is part of United's ongoing efforts to enhance inflight entertainment, following its 2024 agreement with SpaceX to equip its fleet with Starlink's high-speed Wi-Fi.
Andrew Nocella, United's Chief Commercial Officer, stated, "United is adding Starlink to more aircraft than any other airline in the world and teaming up with DIRECTV is a way for us to give customers a glimpse into the future of inflight entertainment with live sports." He emphasised the importance of dynamic, real-time content on seatback screens, made possible by Starlink's connectivity and DIRECTV's live TV offerings.
Currently, Starlink is active on over 400 United aircraft, with plans to expand across the entire fleet by the end of 2027. This move aims to transform the inflight experience, offering passengers a seamless transition from traditional on-demand content to live streaming, akin to using a mobile device
