United Airlines has launched a new "Stars and Stripes" livery to commemorate America's 250th anniversary, alongside reaching a significant milestone in its United Military Pilot Programme. Since 2024, nearly 600 military pilots have transitioned to United through this initiative, with expectations to add 500 more by the end of 2027.
The new livery, painted on a Boeing 787-10 and Boeing 737-800, features a striking red, white, and blue design with 50 stars and diagonal stripes, symbolising the nation's energy and momentum. These aircraft will also carry a commemorative plaque dedicated to United's active-duty service members and veterans.
At a celebration held at Washington Dulles International Airport, US Secretary of Transportation Sean P. Duffy and United CEO Scott Kirby highlighted the airline's commitment to supporting military personnel. Kirby stated, "America is the greatest country in the world, and we're proud to play a role in celebrating our nation's 250th anniversary."
United's Military Pilot Programme offers active-duty and reserve military pilots a conditional job offer as a First Officer, providing flexibility for service members transitioning to civilian careers. The airline currently employs over 8,300 military veterans, including 1,500 active members of the National Guard and Reserve forces.
In addition to hiring initiatives, United supports military organisations through flight support, career mentorship, and volunteerism. The airline's efforts include partnerships with the USO and the Fisher House Foundation, providing over 16,000 flights to military and veteran families in need
