Walter Cho, Chairman and CEO of Korean Air and Hanjin Group, has been awarded the 2026 Asia Airline Executive of the Year by CAPA - Centre for Aviation. The accolade was presented at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Asia, held from 1 to 2 October at New Chitose Airport in Sapporo, Japan. CAPA annually recognises industry leaders for their strategic decision-making and business impact.
Cho was commended for his adept management during the pandemic and his pivotal role in the integration of Korean Air and Asiana Airlines. The consolidation process is set to culminate in the launch of the unified airline on 17 December. His influence extends beyond this merger, having served as Chairman of the SkyTeam Alliance Board and maintaining a position on the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Board of Governors.
Marco Navarria, Senior Director Content & Marketing at CAPA, stated, “We are delighted to recognise Walter Cho as our Asia Airline Executive of the Year. His visionary leadership has been transformative not only for the airline but for the region as a whole.”
During the summit, Cho participated in an interview where he shared insights on the strategic blueprint for the integrated airline and the enhanced passenger benefits anticipated. This award adds to Cho’s previous recognitions, including the Air Transport World Excellence in Leadership Award in 2023 and being named Korea Executive of the Year in 2024 by the Korean Academic Society of Business Administration
