Liverpool airport gears up for busy Easter weekend

Around 63,000 passengers will head to LJLA over the Easter bank holiday weekend

Staff at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) are gearing up for a busy Easter bank holiday weekend, as thousands of travellers prepare to fly overseas.

Around 63,000 passengers are expected to pass through the airport between Good Friday and Easter Monday, 7% higher than Easter 2016. In real terms, this means that an extra 5,000 passengers will head to LJLA this weekend, taking advantage of a range of new flights.

The airport says that the top five sunshine destinations this Easter are likely to be Barcelona, Malaga, Alicante, Faro and Palma, reflecting how many residents of the northeast are seeking warmer weather.

“We expect the Easter getaway once again to bring the busiest weekend of the year so far for the airport and to be even busier than last Easter with passenger numbers expected to be around 7% higher,” Robin Tudor, head of PR for LJLA.

“It’s no surprise to see a number of Mediterranean destinations proving popular as travellers from across the region head off in search of some spring sunshine, taking advantage of the convenience and great range of destinations available direct from Liverpool.”

Another destination likely to prove popular is Rome, which is now available from Liverpool for the first time in many years, following the establishment of Blue Air’s new base at LJLA at the end of March. The Liverpool-Rome service will operate daily throughout Easter.
