Qantas boosts Sydney-Auckland capacity as Emirates pulls out

Emirates will suspend its daily A380 Sydney-Auckland service in July

Qantas will add more seat capacity on the Sydney-Auckland sector next month, following the suspension of Emirates’ services on the route.

The Dubai-based carrier currently flies its Airbus A380 daily on the trans-Tasman route, as an extension of its Dubai-Sydney route.

But according to an update on the Routes Online flight database, these flights will end on 12 July 2017. And to make up for the lost capacity, Qantas will add more capacity onto the Sydney-Auckland route.

On 13 July, the Australian carrier will upgrade one of its daily services between Sydney and Auckland from a single-aisle Boeing 737 to a twin-aisle A330.

Emirates will continue to operate direct flights from Dubai to Sydney and Auckland, as well as flying to Sydney via Bangkok.
