Do you lose sleep about the health hazards associated with using airport security bins?
No, me neither. But if you do, then fret no more; an airport in the US claims to have launched the world’s first “self-cleaning” bins.
Ohio’s Akron-Canton Airport is using a new type of light film to cover its bins. These skins, which are applied like stickers to the handles and bases of the containers, feature mineral nano-crystals that create a self-cleaning reaction that’s said to be “stronger than bleach” and works continuously.
“Travellers’ health and happiness is a priority of ours,” said Rick McQueen, the airport’s president & CEO. “Our employees pride themselves on holding high standards for the cleanliness of the airport, and there is a lot of hard work that goes into meeting those standards.
“We’re proud to… implement this product because it’s one more way CAK continues to be a better way to go,” he added.
In rolling out the bins, Akron-Canton claims to have achieved “a first among the world’s 9,000 airports”.
