
From choosing travel over holiday gifts and flying to space - one thing from the latest Amex Trendex report that was abundantly clear was the strong desire for travel among consumers, especially with remote work enabling more flexible travel days. The survey found that 61% agree remote work gives them the flexibility to avoid busy travel days this year and 47% of respondents plan to travel for at least one holiday this season.
As, 73% agree they would rather take a luxury international trip for two weeks than go to space for 10 minutes, this month’s Amex Trendex uncovered the top travel habits and desires shaping up this busy holiday season and beyond:
Remote Work Providing Consumers With Flexible Travel Days
57% agree remote work has given them the flexibility to extend their travel plans
Nearly half of consumers surveyed (49%) plan to travel on or before the Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving (November 23, 2021) compared to just 29% who plan to travel on Thanksgiving Day (November 25, 2021)
The “book now, figure it out later” trend that first emerged in 2020 continues to be popular as 63% of consumers surveyed agree that they are willing to book a trip even if they might have to cancel it.
Travel Bookings Topping Consumer’s Holiday Wish Lists
77% agree they would rather take a vacation with their significant other than exchange gifts
68% agree they would forgo exchanging gifts with their family for a family vacation
Many agree they are interested in receiving a domestic (65%) and international (49%) trip as a gift
42% agree they would skip celebrating Thanksgiving in the US in order to take an international vacation
Consumers Are Betting Big On Travel In 2022
55% plan on traveling 1-3 times and 39% plan to travel over 4 times in 2022
66% agree they would quit social media for a year if it meant they could travel abroad for free for 3 months in 2022
