Singaporeans are set to embrace a travel boom in 2027, with 89% planning to maintain or increase their travel activities, according to Skyscanner's Travel Trends 2027 report. The report highlights a shift towards meaningful travel experiences, with holidaymakers opting for off-grid digital detoxes, currency-smart destination swaps, and unique regional finds.
The report identifies seven key trends shaping travel behaviour. Notably, "Signal Severance" sees 80% of travellers disconnecting from digital devices, boosting demand for remote destinations like Yining, China, and Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. Meanwhile, "Pilgra-merch" highlights a trend where 56% of travellers plan trips around acquiring exclusive items unavailable online.
Belitung, Indonesia, has emerged as the fastest-rising destination, with a 388% year-on-year surge in searches. Chicago, USA, leads as the best-value destination, thanks to a 47% drop in airfares.
Bryan Batista, CEO of Skyscanner, noted, “Travel is entering a new era. As people become more intentional about how they spend their time and money, they're making different choices about where they go, how they book and what creates lasting value.”
The report also reveals that 65% of Singaporeans are using AI tools for travel planning, with a focus on destination research and itinerary building. Brendan Walsh, Skyscanner Travel Trends and Destination Expert, advises travellers to leverage AI and currency trends to maximise value in 2027.
As travel demand remains robust despite economic uncertainties, Singaporeans are prioritising authentic experiences, convenience, and cost-effectiveness in their travel plans.
