Southwest Airlines has announced significant enhancements to its Rapid Rewards loyalty programme, set to take effect from 1 January 2027. The updates include new Silver, Gold, and Platinum tiers, expanded redemption options, and international partnerships, aiming to offer more value and flexibility to its members.

The revamped programme introduces a three-tier structure, with the new Platinum status offering unlimited Companion Pass trips. Members will also benefit from Milestone Rewards, allowing them to earn rewards before reaching a new tier. Rapid Rewards Credit Cardmembers will find it easier to achieve tier status, earning one Tier Qualifying Point (TQP) for every dollar spent.

Nandika Suri, Vice President of Rapid Rewards, stated, “As our Members engage more with Southwest, they’ve told us they want Rapid Rewards to reward them in more meaningful ways.” The enhancements are designed to reflect this feedback, providing more opportunities for members to earn and redeem points.

In addition to domestic improvements, Southwest is expanding its international reach. From Spring 2027, members can earn and redeem points with new airline partners, including Icelandair, China Airlines, and Etihad Airways, opening up destinations like Reykjavik, Paris, and Tokyo.

Further, members will soon be able to use points for seat selection and rental cars. The airline also plans to introduce Southwest Icon Lounges in late 2027, offering premium amenities and a unique travel experience.

These changes underscore Southwest's commitment to enhancing customer loyalty and satisfaction, promising a more rewarding travel experience for its members.
