TAT highlights Thailand’s tourism at CNN event

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) showcased Thailand's potential as a high-value tourism destination during the inaugural Asia edition of CNN Global Perspectives: In Bangkok on 14 October. Held at The Ritz-Carlton, Bangkok, the event coincided with the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Annual Meetings, attracting global leaders, investors, and policymakers.

Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, emphasised the opportunity to integrate tourism with wellness, culture, business, and investment. "Through CNN’s global platform, TAT presented Thailand not only as a leading tourism destination, but as a Global Wellness Destination offering meaningful experiences for travellers increasingly focused on physical and mental well-being," she stated.

The event, featuring prominent figures such as Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and DBS Group CEO Tan Su Shan, explored global transformation themes. TAT's participation underscored a tourism model prioritising quality and equitable economic benefits, aiming for a 60:40 distribution between major and emerging destinations.

In a discussion with Anita Mandarita, Special Adviser to the UN Tourism Secretary-General, Thapanee highlighted Thailand's value-over-volume approach and the role of Thai-ness in enhancing visitor experiences. "Our Visitor Economy direction looks beyond arrivals towards meaningful and distinctly Thai experiences," she noted.

TAT's "Healing is the New Luxury" concept promotes Thailand as a wellness hub, leveraging its traditions of mindfulness and modern healthcare. The initiative aligns with TAT's Amazing 5 Economy strategy, which seeks to expand tourism's economic impact across the country.
