Ontario International Airport (ONT) has revealed a striking new monument sign at the intersection of Archibald Avenue and Airport Drive, symbolising the airport's transformation and growth as it celebrates ten years of local control. The new sign replaces a modest structure from 1998, featuring the iconic ONT airport code in large letters, backed by sculpted mountain forms inspired by the nearby San Gabriel Mountains.
Alan Wapner, President of the Ontario International Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, stated, "Today we proudly unveil a monument that unmistakably declares who we are and where we are headed." The sign, standing 12 feet tall and weighing over eight tonnes, is illuminated by LED lights that can change colours for various occasions.
The unveiling coincides with ONT's yearlong celebration of its "Decade of Local Control," marking a period of significant growth and innovation since the airport's ownership transferred to local leadership on 1 November 2016. This transition has reinforced ONT's position as a key gateway in Southern California.
Designed by Ontario-based Sign Industries, the monument reflects a collaboration between airport leadership and local creatives. It serves as a bold statement of ONT's ongoing ascent and regional pride. Located 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, ONT is a full-service airport offering nonstop flights to major destinations across the US, Mexico, Central America, and Taiwan.
