Sofitel has announced a partnership with Orascom Development Egypt to transform the iconic Mövenpick El Gouna into the Sofitel El Gouna Resort, a luxury destination on Egypt's Red Sea coast. The renovation is set to begin in 2027, aiming to enhance Sofitel's luxury presence in the region with a 420-room resort that embodies French elegance and local charm.
The project, developed in collaboration with Arabian Peninsula Hospitality, will reposition the resort as a flagship destination, reflecting El Gouna's vibrant lifestyle and cultural scene. Maud Bailly, CEO of Sofitel, stated, "El Gouna embodies a rare balance of nature, community, and international lifestyle, making it an ideal setting for Sofitel."
El Gouna, a thriving coastal town, is renowned for its international community and year-round appeal. The town's strategic location, just 30 minutes from Hurghada International Airport, makes it easily accessible for global travellers. With over 100 dining concepts and a range of hotels, El Gouna has set a benchmark for hospitality on the Red Sea.
The Sofitel El Gouna Resort will feature reimagined rooms and suites, a diverse culinary scene, and extensive leisure facilities, including a spa and fitness centre. The resort aims to attract both leisure and business travellers with its refined offerings and exceptional location.
This transformation aligns with Egypt's growing tourism sector, positioning the Red Sea Riviera as a premier destination. The project supports Sofitel's strategy to expand its luxury footprint in Egypt, complementing existing properties like Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah. Mohamed Amer, CEO of El Gouna, emphasised the partnership's role in enhancing El Gouna's international profile and distinctive identity
