Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), India's largest hospitality firm, has announced the signing of a new Tree of Life resort at Chilika Lake, Odisha. This greenfield project marks the company's first venture into the state, reflecting a strategic move to tap into destinations with strong experiential appeal. Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President of Real Estate & Development at IHCL, highlighted the growing trend for nature-led travel, stating, “The rising preference for nature-led, lesser-explored destinations reflects a shift in how guests are choosing to travel.”
Situated on the banks of Asia's largest brackish water lagoon, the 30-key resort will offer guests unobstructed views of the lagoon, an all-day dining restaurant and bar, a spacious meeting room, and leisure facilities such as a swimming pool and spa. The development is a collaboration with Sanjay Gadodia, Director of Scania Steels and Powers Ltd., who expressed enthusiasm for the project, saying, “This development will reflect the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region.”
Chilika Lake, recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage site candidate, is home to over 160 bird species and the endangered Irrawaddy dolphin. This new resort aims to provide immersive stays closely connected to its natural setting, aligning with IHCL's strategy to expand in destinations with experiential appeal. The project underscores IHCL's commitment to enhancing its portfolio with unique travel experiences
