Solomon Airlines has announced a new interline agreement with Philippine Airlines, enhancing international connectivity between the Solomon Islands and Asia.
This agreement allows travellers to book seamless connections from Honiara to Manila via Port Moresby and Brisbane, significantly improving travel efficiency.
The partnership introduces Interline Through Check-In (IATCI) technical integration, enabling passengers to travel on a single ticket with their baggage checked through to their final destination. This development eliminates the need for baggage reclaims or re-check-ins at transit points, reducing travel time and enhancing the passenger experience. Matthew Findlay, CEO of Solomon Airlines, stated, “By enabling IATCI technical integration, we are removing the friction from international travel and creating new pathways to and from the Pacific Islands.”
Cail Sanciangco, Assistant Vice President of Philippine Airlines, highlighted the importance of the collaboration, saying, “By strengthening links between the Philippines and the Solomon Islands, we are creating new opportunities for tourism, commerce, and cultural exchange.”
Solomon Airlines has also commenced its first weekly flight from Honiara to Port Moresby, now operating four times weekly to Brisbane. This strategic move positions Port Moresby as a key hub for travel to and from Asia, offering a faster alternative for those travelling between the Solomon Islands and Southeast Asia. The new routes are expected to facilitate business, tourism, and labour mobility, strengthening ties between the South Pacific and Asian markets. Tickets are available through Solomon Airlines and Philippine Airlines
