Artificial intelligence (AI) usage for international trip planning has surged by 64% in the past six months, according to the Global Rescue Traveller Sentiment and Safety Survey.
The survey highlights a shift in traveller attitudes, with 36% of experienced international travellers now using AI for planning, up from 22% in January 2026. Concurrently, resistance to AI has decreased, with the percentage of travellers unwilling to use the technology dropping from 40% to 35%.
The survey, conducted by Global Rescue, a leading travel risk and crisis response provider, found that travellers are increasingly comfortable using AI for tasks such as destination research, itinerary building, and navigating international entry requirements. Dan Richards, CEO of The Global Rescue Companies, noted, "Travellers increasingly trust AI to research destinations, compare options, and build itineraries, but they still want to make the important decisions themselves."
AI adoption varies significantly between US-based and non-US-based travellers. Whilst 33% of US-based travellers have used AI for trip planning, nearly 48% of non-US-based travellers have already embraced the technology. Non-US-based travellers also report higher usage across various planning functions, including destination research and translation assistance.
Despite the growing adoption, many travellers remain cautious, with 26% stating they would not use AI for travel. Richards emphasised that AI is not replacing travel advisers but is becoming an indispensable planning tool, complementing human judgement and expertise, especially in unpredictable situations
