Emirates has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Medical Tourism Association (MTA) to expand its presence in the burgeoning medical tourism sector. The agreement, announced on 17 September 2026, aims to leverage Dubai's status as a leading healthcare and medical tourism hub, alongside Emirates' extensive network of nearly 140 destinations.
The partnership marks a strategic shift for Emirates, moving beyond traditional leisure and corporate travel to focus on medical tourism, a rapidly growing segment in international travel. Adnan Kazim, Emirates Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the significance of healthcare travel, stating, "Healthcare is among the most important reasons people travel internationally and is growing significantly."
The collaboration will see Emirates become the preferred airline for international medical and wellness travellers, identifying key markets and medical travel corridors across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. The airline plans to develop tailored travel solutions and enhance customer experiences for patients, referring physicians, insurers, and employers.
Jonathan Edelheit, CEO and Founder of MTA, noted that the partnership provides a direct path from a global airline to accredited providers, streamlining access for international patients. The initiative aims to raise international best practices and standards across the sector, with Emirates aspiring to become the world's first Global Healthcare Accreditation (GHA)-accredited airline.
Through MTA's global network, which reaches over 500,000 healthcare providers and industry leaders, the partnership will explore opportunities to coordinate treatment and travel arrangements, ensuring a seamless medical travel experience for millions of prospective travellers annually.
