Malaysia Airlines and China Southern Airlines have announced an expansion of their codeshare partnership, adding five new routes between Malaysia and China. Effective from 25 October, this collaboration will cover all Kuala Lumpur-related routes operated by both airlines, connecting the Malaysian capital with key Chinese cities such as Shenzhen, Changsha, Xiamen, Chengdu, and Zhengzhou.
The expanded codeshare agreement aims to offer passengers increased travel flexibility and smoother connections across the two airlines' networks. This development follows the initial codeshare launch on the Kuala Lumpur-Guangzhou route in July 2023, which was later extended in July 2024 to include routes to Beijing Daxing, Shanghai Pudong, and Penang-Guangzhou.
Malaysia Airlines' President and Group CEO, Nasaruddin A. Bakar, expressed enthusiasm for the strengthened partnership, stating, "China remains a key strategic market for Malaysia Airlines, and our continued expansion in the country reflects the importance we place on strengthening our connections with the region."
China Southern Airlines' President, Han Wensheng, highlighted the growth potential of the Malaysian market, noting that the partnership will leverage mutual strengths and increase flight frequencies, supported by visa-free policies between the two countries.
This collaboration underscores the significance of the Malaysia-China market for both airlines, with all Kuala Lumpur-related routes now under the codeshare agreement. The partnership is set to enhance tourism, trade, and economic ties between the two nations, aligning with the Belt and Road Initiative
