The Travel Association, ABTA, has expressed support for the UK government's recent announcement regarding jet fuel and the initiation of a new consultation. Luke Petherbridge, Director of Public Affairs at ABTA, highlighted the importance of this move in providing reassurance and confidence to UK holidaymakers planning their summer breaks.

ABTA emphasised the existing strong consumer protections that offer peace of mind to travellers, with the association and its members committed to upholding these rights. Petherbridge stated, "It is right for policymakers to take steps that enable the aviation sector to plan and to provide additional certainty."

The consultation is expected to address the entire travel sector, including travel agents and tour operators, acknowledging the impact of the Middle East conflict on the industry. ABTA is advocating for a comprehensive approach, ensuring that all parts of the sector are considered.

ABTA is actively engaging with government and airline representatives to discuss current challenges and potential future issues. Petherbridge noted, "We’re doing just that, meeting government and airline colleagues on a regular basis to provide the perspective from the whole industry."

The association aims to use the consultation as an opportunity to further these discussions whilst reassuring the public that travel plans remain unaffected. ABTA continues to focus on maintaining open dialogue with the government to ensure the industry's needs are addressed effectively
