However, the factors driving this preference vary across markets, creating opportunities for travel providers to adapt their services to local needs.
Local payment options matter to 33% of travellers, with respondents in Malaysia (46%), Indonesia (41%) and the Philippines (39%) placing the greatest importance on them. Native-language customer support also influences booking decisions, particularly in South Korea (40%) and Japan (31%).
Agoda supports nearly 100 alternative payment options and operates in 39 languages to provide a familiar booking experience across its markets.
"Travel may be global, but confidence is local. A property can sell the same room everywhere, yet the path to that booking looks different in Kuala Lumpur, in Seoul, in Jakarta," said Andrew Smith, Senior Vice President of Supply at Agoda.
The survey also found that 64% of travellers start planning with a destination in mind. However, accommodation leads the planning process for 24% of respondents in Indonesia and Thailand. Meanwhile, 27% prefer to book flights and hotels together, pointing to growing interest in bundled travel services.
Agoda brings accommodation, flights and activities together on one platform. Its inventory includes more than six million holiday properties, 130,000 flight routes and 300,000 activities. The platform aims to meet the changing needs of Asian travellers through a more convenient booking experience.
