Air Mauritius has announced the introduction of non-stop flights from London Gatwick to Mauritius, in collaboration with the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA).
This initiative aims to attract a diverse range of visitors and promote regenerative tourism. The announcement was made during a meeting in the UK with hoteliers, travel agents, and media, where the evolving tourism strategy for Mauritius was unveiled.
The new strategy focuses on promoting Mauritius as a destination for wellbeing and sports tourism, including golf, as well as for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) groups. Dinesh Burrenchobay, Chairman of MTPA, emphasised the importance of working closely with Air Mauritius to provide seamless travel options for visitors.
Air Mauritius currently operates up to five non-stop weekly flights between London Gatwick and SSR International Airport, offering 159,164 seats annually. The airline plans to increase the frequency of these flights and enhance its business class seating. Laurent Recoura, Chief Commercial Officer of Air Mauritius, expressed pride in the airline's role in connecting Mauritius to the world.
Beyond its beaches, Mauritius offers a rich cultural experience with a blend of African, Asian, and European influences. The island is also a prime destination for sports tourism, with activities such as kitesurfing, golfing, and diving. The MTPA is committed to advancing sustainability initiatives, aiming for a regenerative tourism model that benefits local ecosystems and communities.
Air Mauritius and MTPA will showcase their initiatives at the World Travel Market in London this November, alongside a global marketing campaign
