The seasonal route will connect Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport with Narita International Airport, expanding travel links between Alaska and the Asia-Pacific region.
The airline will operate the route using a Boeing 737 MAX 8. Passengers will have access to priority boarding, recliner seats and upgraded dining options in First Class.
The new service responds to long-standing demand for direct flights between Alaska and Japan. It also aims to boost tourism and commerce.
Marilyn Romano, Alaska Airlines Regional Vice President, welcomed the new connection. She said the route would create opportunities for tourism and commerce while extending the airline’s hospitality to more travellers.
The Anchorage–Tokyo Narita service will operate daily during the summer season until 7 September 2027. Flights will resume three times a week in winter from January 2028.
Introductory return fares start at US$999 for travel between 13 May and 7 June 2027. Tickets are available now.
Alaska Airlines also plans to launch seasonal nonstop services from Anchorage to Austin, Nashville and Dallas-Fort Worth in 2027. The expansion will create the largest nonstop schedule from Alaska in the airline’s history as it approaches its 95th anniversary.
